Somatic Enneagram In-person Modules 1–2

From Embodied Awareness to Working with the Defense System

February 25–28, 2027 | Seattle, Washington | In Person | Led by Marion Gilbert

We can know a great deal about our Enneagram type and still find ourselves reacting in the same familiar ways.

That is because the patterns of type do not live only in our thoughts. They are expressed through the body—in where our attention goes, how our breathing changes, where we contract, the emotions that become available or disappear, and the impulses that tell us to move toward, move away, take control, disconnect, or become still.

The Somatic Enneagram invites us to encounter these patterns where they are actually happening.

This four-day, in-person intensive brings together Modules 1 and 2 of the Somatic Enneagram training, creating an opportunity to move through the foundational work in a sustained, immersive environment. Rather than learning one concept and immediately returning to everyday life, you will have time to practice, notice, integrate, and continue into the next layer of the work alongside a community engaged in the same exploration.

Module 1: Using Body Intelligence to Relax Type Structure establishes the foundations of somatic awareness. You will develop capacity for the Inner Observer Mind, Grounded Presence Body, and Placement of Attention Awareness while exploring Felt Sense Awareness, Resourced Awareness, and Integration Awareness. These practices help us recognize our Enneagram patterns as lived experiences and develop the capacity to stay voluntarily present with places we might ordinarily avoid.

Module 2: Liberating Life Force by Working with Your Defense System takes that awareness deeper. We turn toward the body's natural protective responses and explore what happens when we feel threatened, challenged, overwhelmed, or triggered. Rather than treating fight, flight, freeze, contraction, or other defensive responses as problems to overcome, we learn to recognize the intelligence within them and develop a more compassionate relationship with what they are attempting to protect.

Together, these two modules create an important progression.

This event begins at 8:00 am on Thursday, February 25, 2027, and concludes at 6:00 pm on February 28, 2027. This is a non-residential training. Travel, lodging, and transportation are not included in your registration fee and should be arranged separately.

What You Will Experience

Across four immersive days, you’ll move through the foundational practices of the Somatic Enneagram through teaching, experiential exercises, somatic inquiry, reflection, and learning in community.

Beginning with body intelligence and embodied awareness, you’ll develop the Inner Observer, Grounded Presence, and greater awareness of where you place your attention. Through felt sense, resourcing, and integration practices, you’ll learn to recognize the patterns of your Enneagram type as they arise in real time.

From there, you’ll explore the body’s natural defense system, including fight, flight, and freeze, and begin recognizing what happens when you feel challenged, threatened, or overwhelmed.

Rather than trying to eliminate these patterns, you’ll practice meeting them with curiosity and compassion—developing greater capacity to stay present, understand what they are protecting, and create more space for choice.

What You Will Gain

Through Modules 1–2, you’ll develop a practical foundation for experiencing the Enneagram through the intelligence of the body—not simply understanding your type intellectually.

You’ll strengthen your capacity for grounded presence, embodied awareness, and compassionate self-observation, learning to recognize patterns of sensation, attention, emotion, contraction, and impulse as they arise.

You’ll also develop a deeper understanding of your defense system and protective responses, discovering how to meet familiar patterns with curiosity rather than automatically reacting from them.

Ultimately, this work helps create more space between reaction and response—supporting greater choice, resilience, integration, and freedom in how you relate to yourself and others.

About Your Guide(s)

Marion Gilbert

Marion Gilbert is the founder of the Somatic Enneagram and an internationally recognized Enneagram teacher whose work has helped bring embodied awareness into the heart of Enneagram practice.

Drawing from decades of experience in somatic awareness, trauma-informed practice, and the Enneagram, Marion developed the Somatic Enneagram as a way of working directly with the patterns of type as they are experienced through sensation, attention, reactivity, and the intelligence of the body.

Her teaching invites participants beyond simply understanding personality and toward experiencing their patterns as they arise in the present moment. Through compassionate inquiry and embodied practice, Marion helps participants cultivate greater presence, choice, resilience, and freedom while reconnecting with the deeper qualities of Essence.
